The Pat Moore Scholarship is available to graduates of Fleming County High School, Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Mason County and St. Patrick's High Schools, Maysville, Kentucky.  The applicant must have participated for at least one season as a student athlete.

Pat Moore was a man who cared about others, especially the
young people in his community.  A regional hall of fame basketball player from his years at Maysville High School, Pat showed his care through coaching, and through the organization of summer basketball leagues that helped to mould the character, as well as the talents, of many young players.  He was someone who could be called on for service by local charities.  In 2001, he became a member of Hayswood Foundation's Board of Directors. The following year, Pat was severely injured in an automobile accident.
He never recovered, and died in May, 2002, at the age of thirty-two.

The Pat Moore Scholarship program was established by the Foundation in 2003 in memory of the accomplishments of this extraordinary individual during his short life.

The applicant must be a senior at, or graduated from Mason County High School or St. Patrick's High School in Maysville, Kentucky, or Fleming County High School in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.

Applicants must have participated for a least one season as a student athlete while enrolled in one of the aforementioned high schools (Participation in intramural sports and cheerleading do not qualify.).

Applicants must be under the age of 25 at the time of initial application, and must not have already completed or attended four years of college.  Scholarships are not awarded for post-graduate study.

Members of the families of the directors or staff of the Foundation are ineligible.

Selection is based on a combination of academics, extra-curricular activities, and financial need.  The selection process is generally completed before the end of May.  Generally, one new recipient is selected each year.

The amount of each scholarship will be $1,000 for the 2020-2021 school year.  Recipients must reapply each year in order to retain their scholarships.  The scholarship may be renewed for up to three additional years, provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Once selected, scholarship recipients must complete 10 hours of volunteer community service each year, as a condition of receiving a scholarship, and as a requirement for reapplying to renew a scholarship for additional years.  See the report form and instructions for more information about this requirement.
