The Zachary Ruble Memorial Scholarship is available to graduates of Mason County High School, Maysville, Kentucky.

The Zachary Ruble Memorial Scholarship program was established by Jay and Paula Ruble in memory of their son, who passed away unexpectedly in April of 2009.  An honor student at the University of Utah, Zachary had an intense passion for protecting the environment, and practiced conservation and recycling.  During most of his senior year in high school, he rode his bicycle to school in an attempt to encourage others to conserve. He was an Eagle Scout, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed rock climbing, backpacking, snow skiing, and water sports.  A 2008 honors graduate of Mason County High School, Zachary maintained a 4.0 grade point average, while still finding the time to play on the school's soccer and tennis teams, and to participate in community service projects.

This scholarship was created to reward students who have demonstrated academic excellence while maintaining involvement in community projects, athletics, and extracurricular activities.  Financial need is not a factor in the selection process.

First-time applicants must be members of the current graduating class at Mason County High School, Maysville, Kentucky.

Applicants must be under the age of 25 at the time of initial application.
Scholarships may be applied towards up to the equivalent of four full academic years, and may applied toward undergraduate, graduate, or professional school studies.  A recipient shall have five calendar years, commencing from their graduation from high school, to utilize the scholarship.

Selection is based on academics, extra-curricular activities, participation in sports, and community involvement.  Achievements both in and out of the classroom will be considered.  Every effort is made to finalize the selection of recipients by the end of May, but delays are often unavoidable due to the nature of the selection process.

The amount of the award is currently $2,000 per school year. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three additional years, provided the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Once selected, scholarship recipients must complete 10 hours of volunteer community service each year, as a condition of receiving a scholarship, and as a requirement for reapplying to renew a scholarship for additional years.  See the report form and instructions for more information about this requirement.
